Last week, the official trailer of ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ was released and has gained highly positive responses. ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ which was released in 2018 was a success after which the follow-up series was planned. Crain family’s story was wrapped up pretty neatly in the first part so this cannot be called a direct sequel. Created by Mike Flanagan, the series is an adaptation of a book titled ‘The Turn of the Screw’ by Henry James. The book was published in 1898 and is a horror fiction ghost story. The book could be interpreted in different ways by different people which was the beauty of it. In January 2020, a movie called ‘The Turning’ was released which is also an adaptation of the book.
What is the series ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ about?
‘The Haunting of Hill House’ dealt with issues such as childhood trauma, the relationship between the family members, and really strong personalities. It also included a big spooky house with ghosts and spirits. The new series is also set in the 80s era with the Bly Manor being the house and the story revolves around all the characters living there. The story begins when Henry Wingrave, the owner of the house hires a caretaker for his niece and nephew after the death of their helper.
Netflix released the trailer for the horror-drama on 23rd September on their YouTube channel. The trailer shows there are a lot of hidden secrets in the family which leads to all the incidents. Now, they have not shown us ghosts in the trailer but there will surely be some. The death of the parents of the kids also seems mysterious. We will have to wait to find out what their story is. Starring Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, T’Nia Miller, Catherine Parker, Rahul Kohli, Benjamin Ainsworth, Amelie Smith, Amelia Eve, and Tahirah Sharif, the season will consist of 9 episodes. People are already in love with the show and the reviews till now seem pretty positive. On 21st February 2019, the follow-up series was announced by Netflix. Flanagan said that he was not thinking of a 2nd season. However, after seeing the success and with Netflix being ready to produce the sequel, he went for it. The filming was wrapped up in February 2020 and they have been working on the post-production activities. The show will be releasing on 9th October. It will be available for streaming on Netflix.
