On 9th October, 2020 the American comedy directed by Tim Hill ‘The War with Grandpa’ was released. The movie earned $1.1 million on Friday putting an end to Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’. Written by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, the story is an adaptation from a novel by Robert Kimmel Smith with the same name. The movie talks about a young kid who does everything to make his grandfather move out of his room. It talks about the generation gap and how things turn out when people of different ages, personalities, and thinking come together. It is a comedy family drama and even though the movie is seen as a success because of the numbers, it seems like the critics have not enjoyed the movie much.

Originally, the movie was scheduled to release in 2018 but was called off due to a controversy. Harvey Weinstein, the in-charge of the production activities of the movie was involved in a sexual abuse scandal. He was the owner of the Weinstein company. Proofs came out and he was charged guilty. He was a serious sexual harasser and used his power to commit such acts. Around 80 women came forward talking about various crimes such as sexual abuse, assault, and even rape. After this, his production house was cut down from various associations and it was dismissed. No kind of promotional or marketing events could be held due to the guidelines that were to be followed. Forbes had mentioned the movie to be one of the worst movies to be a box office hit. Critics have said that there is no fun in the movie which is expected from a comedy-drama and it comes out as a dull movie completely. The plot revolves around Peter Dekker and his family. His grandfather Ed comes to live with them and takes upon Peter’s room. Peter is now forced to live with him which he does not enjoy and tries to get rid of him. He tries on numerous pranks on his grandfather but he always fought back. Ed started playing his own pranks on Peter and their relationship grows as they keep on fighting. The exchange of dialogues and their attitude to never give up is what creates this comedy adventure. The movie has only received a rating of 4.23/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. Many who have watched the movie said that there are only certain scenes which are funny otherwise it is just plain boring. The movie involves a lot of slapstick comedy and the plot is not properly organized and seems illogical in certain ways.
