The most iconic horror movie of all time ‘The Exorcist’ which was released in 1973 is getting a reboot and will be hitting the theatres in 2021. On Thursday, Deadline released a report talking about the reboot of ‘Dead Ringers’ reboot series, and they stated that Morgan Creek is also producing the reboot of ‘The Exorcist’ even though there has been no official announcement as of now. The American supernatural horror film, written by William Peter Blatty, has released three more sequels of the movie. They are ‘The Exorcist 3’ in 1990, ‘Exorcist: The Beginning’ in 2004 and ‘Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist’ in 2005. The reboot will be releasing next year, and it has gotten everyone excited already.

The movie is said to be iconic and one of the most frightening films of all time. Premiered in 1973, the movie is adapted from a book with the same name. The book was a best seller. It was planned to be released as a movie but the casting was an issue. They turned down major stars of that era. Finally, they ended up casting Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Linda Blair, and others. It was said to be a small budget film with no actors known to the audience.
After the movie was released, the audience flocked to the nearby theatres watching the movie more than once. People had to stand in line during the winter to get a ticket for the movie. The movie portrayed various physical reactions from the audience. Miscarriages and heart attacks were reported by a psychiatric journal. With scenes such as the protagonist undergoing a cerebral angiography to masturbating with the crucifix people showed reactions such as fainting and vomiting. The movie was asked to be given an X-rating instead of an R-rating. Even after all this, it crossed $661 million over the decades.
Can the fans expect a reboot?
The movie was also nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. It was the first horror movie to be nominated ever. From 2016 to 2017, a TV series was released which was running on Fox. Some five years ago, Morgan Creek tweeted that no attempt will be made to reboot ‘The Exorcist’, Slashfilm pointed out. As of now, Morgan Creek has not commented on anything about the remake. But, the film has shown groundbreaking records and is an iconic movie of all time. If a reboot is made, the audience will surely be excited. Get ready to break out the Holy Water and Crucifix as Pazuzu will be back soon.
