Written and Directed by Narendra Nath, ‘Miss India’ is a Telugu movie that has been recently released. The movie is about a middle-class woman who aims to become a successful businesswoman but has numerous obstacles to go through before reaching her goal. It has also been dubbed in Malayalam and Tamil. The movie was initially scheduled to release on 17th April 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic. The production house had planned to give it a theatrical release but they couldn’t delay it more which is why they gave the distribution activities and rights to Netflix.
The movie does not seem to impress the audience and has received some mixed reviews. The movie was supposed to portray the women empowering themselves in a man’s world. However, the story has been dramatized a lot and there is a lot of overdrawn drama. Also, many have complained that the way the US and its culture are portrayed in the film is very diverting which shows a lack of research from the director’s end.
What is the movie ‘Miss India’ about?
Its plot revolves around Manasa Samyuktha who sets off to start her business in the United States. Since childhood, she has been good at academics and her mother wants her to get married and live a comfortable life. She aims at starting her own business of her grandfather’s ayurvedic chai recipe. After her brother lands a job in the US, she travels with him and starts working on her idea. Her business starts booming and the popularity of her chai keeps on increasing. Then, her competitor comes in creating hurdles for her. A successful businessman Kailash Shiva Kumar who is portrayed as a sexist and is shrewd, comes in as a villain leading to continuation. You can expect the drama that will follow which is not something new for a Tollywood movie.
The cast consists of many versatile and hit stars like Keerthy Suresh, Rajendra Prasad, Jagapathi Babu, Naresh, and Nadhiya. It was released on 4th November 2020 on Netflix as they could not do a theatrical release. The theatres are still shut down due to the pandemic. The critics are not impressed and have called it an outcome of poor writing. The production cost is very high and the director has managed to keep the audience engaged throughout. There are surely some characters who are not needed and there is no major plot twist but you should watch it for Keerthy Suresh’s performance.
