Recently, you might have noticed that all the applications have started switching to the dark mode. It’s not compulsory and you can switch to the default mode but you could see the popularity of dark mode growing. Earlier this year, even Whatsapp adapted to the dark mode and people were waiting for it to come on Facebook. A Facebook spokesperson mentioned that even Facebook will have a dark mode that is now available in millions of smartphones. As compared to other applications, FB has been slow to adapt to it. Since April, Facebook was working on this new feature on Android and IoS and wanted to introduce it to the consumers without any defect or other issues.

Why has the Dark Mode feature gained so much popularity?
The Dark Mode feature gained popularity due to the numerous benefits it has. It can reduce stress on a person’s eye in a low light area. It also provides easier readability when it comes to reading a large amount of data. The dark mode also prolongs the battery life of the device due to low brightness especially when you are using apps such as YouTube. Many also enjoy the effect that it gives rather than the bland white background. Many health experts also say that the dark mode has a lesser blue light radiation. This is said to be good for the melatonin levels of people. However, many have objected that the dark mode is not always good. Especially, in well-lighted areas, or when direct sunlight hits the device, it’s difficult to read and can increase the stress on the eyes.

Who introduced the Dark Mode feature?
Google Chrome was the first to get an update where they introduced dark mode and it got popular amongst users. However, in 2016 Twitter had already introduced their dark mode before. Earlier, people used to use unofficial apps such as Morphen Dark and many others for changing the colors. Some applications such as Spotify, Adobe applications, and many IOS apps were created around this color spectrum.

If you go back a few years, dark mode was usually used by people in cybersecurity or dark web activities. This allowed other people to kind of understand what’s going on. Dark Mode goes long back when computers were being developed. You could see coders and developers used to work in darker shades. However, as we progressed and colors came into the picture, we started adopting the lighter versions. There surely has been a debate on which mode is better and how it affects others. However, in the end, it all comes down to the individual’s choice.
