Just a year ago it occurred to me the idea of creating a website to promote the mariachi music. You might have read the story already, but in September 2009, a few days before I was getting married, I set off to find the best mariachi group in town to give the woman who would become my wife, a serenata. It was very difficult to find reliable information online about the mariachis in Atlanta, but finally I found an excellent mariachi group to give my wife the best ‘serenata mariachi’ that she received ever.
After our honeymoon, I decided I needed to do something about this situation, for those who like me needed to express all their love with the best music for that type of ocassion, with a good Mariachi!
When I shared this idea, Sofy, my sister-in-law got as excited as I was with this project, so we partnered in creating SerenataMariachi.com, the Online Mariachi Directory, and this blog: The Mariachi’s Hat with the main goal of connecting people who needed to express their feelings with a good mariachi.
It has been a year full of satisfaction, and with the little time we have left to dedicate to these websites
and the project in general, we have managed to accomplish so many things.
We have learned a lot about the Mariachi music and tradition and we got to like it and love it everyday more and more.
We have profiled many mariachis in our blog in recognition of the work they do to promote the Mariachi tradition, so we could recognize the work they do to keep alive the mariachi tradition.
We have connected customers with mariachis all over the United States. It is one of our greatest satisfactions to hear repeatedly that we have helped mariachis land a gig. We really love when that happens because we know that we are doing something for the mariachi tradition.
We have made wonderful friends, too many to name them all here, but people like Jonathan Clark, Gil Sperry, Maribel Salinas, Veronica Oviedo, Caro Mayorga, and many others have become dear friends of us and of Serenata Mariachi.
There is so much more to do, and many things to improve in our website, but here are some of the things that we are working on and that will be available in 2011.
- Improve the listings of the Mariachi groups in the website. We will provide a way for each mariachi to update their own information.
- Provide rankings for the mariachis so customers can choose the best mariachis in their area, and it will reward mariachis that care for the customer and have the best quality in their music and customer service.
- Enhance searchability for the mariachi profiles so customers can find you much more easily.
- Improve the calendar of mariachi events
- And many more surprises.
We would like to hear from you, mariachi groups, mariachi artists, customers, or fans, and let us know how can we improve our website and fulfill our mission to promote the mariachi tradition and give mariachis the exposure that they deserve so they can keep doing what they do best.
Many thanks for all the support we have received and: que viva el mariachi!
