Jose Longoria (JL): The group was form by our father, Adrian Longoria Sr, who is originally from Leon, Guanajuato along with friends from other parts of Mexico. As my brother and I grew up playing in the school orchestra, we joined the group at the age of 7 and 8. We performed at quinceañeras, weddings, and private parties. But I must say and express without regret that we also played in cantinas, something that we call “”talon.”” I hated talon, but I greatly appreciate the experience because it is where I learned the most of my music. My brother Adrian, who is 14 years younger than me got incited when he was 9 years old. Then by 1998 the group was mostly younger people until this day. Now I’m the oldest and my son Zuriel (7years old) the youngest. We’ve been fortunate to have accomplished the following dreams:

Albums: Son de Ambiente, Más Allá de Mi México, and Que Bonita Música

World Tours: China, Armenia, Canada, Macedonia, and Albania

Accolades: Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza – 1st Place, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo – 1st Place, Mariachi Competition – San Juan, TX – Semifinalist.

Press Acknowledges: Houston Press- Voted #1 in the City of Houston

Special Appearances: Good Morning America, Selena Vive, UFC,  Pepe Aguilar, Bronco, Pablo Montero, Elsa Garcia, Nydia Rojas, Esteban Velasquez, Maribel Guardia, Beatriz Adriana, Graciela Beltran, Patricia Navidad, and Lorena Herrera

(SM): Where does the name of the group come from?

(JL): Nowhere special. It was a group decision.

(SM): How many musicians there are in your group?

(JL): Currently we have 11 musicians

(SM): What instruments are featured in your group?

(JL): Guitar, vihuela, guitarron, 6 violins, 2 trumpets.

(SM): Does your group make its own arrangements?

(JL): ALL world music, but the mariachi style of my preference is from arrangers like Pepe Martinez, Jose Hernandez, Jesus de Hijar, and Rigoberto Alfaro.

(SM): What is your major musical inspiration?

(JL): If you want to be a mariachi, you need to listen to mariachi music 24/7 from the early 1900’s to current date. This way the mariachi music can be better underdstoon and also to increase repertoire. Learn to sing! A mariachi should be familiar and know how to play at least 500 songs for beginners.
