Serenata Mariachi (SM): Javier Magallon, thank you for joining us in The Mariachi’s Hat blog. How did all this started?

Javier Magallon (JM): El Mariachi Colima was founded by me, its director, in Oakland California in the summer of 1990, 20 years ago.

(SM):Where does the name of the group come from?

(JM): From our state, Colima in Mexico.

(SM):How many musicians there are in your group?

(JM): Between 9 and 10 elements.

(SM):What instruments are featured in your group?

(JM): Five violins, two trumpets, guitarron, vihuela, and sometimes the harp.

(SM):Does your group perform original compositions by its own members?

(JM): No, we only the the arrangements

(SM):What is your major musical inspiration?

(JM): That they need to be very dedicated and put all their sentiment so they can project to everyone the love and feelings for the mexican music. And that before wearing a charro suit, they need to learn what it really means.

(SM):Do you have any advice for young musicians who want to perform mariachi music?

(JM): We remember dearly the time in which we played for president George W. Bush in the city of Capitola, California. It was an unforgetable experience.
(SM):What is your most memorable anecdote regarding the group?

(JM): That our priority will always be our clients and friends. When we play the music of their liking, we always do it from our heart.

(SM):Is there anything else about your mariachi that you would like to share with fans and potential customers?
