The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad is organizing an international mariachi contest open to participants from any nationality.

Here are some of the rules for the contest:

  • Contestants must reside outside Mexico
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Contest is open to people of every nationality
  • Required instruments in the mariachi: Vihuela, Guitarron, Violins.
  • You must submit a video

There are several other rules that can be reviewed in this Word document (In Spanish).

The following are the dates and deadlines for the contents:

April 30, 2010 Videos are due.
May 31, 2010 Jury will announce preselected bands to be included in the website Redes México.
June 1 – July 15, 2010
Online voting for the preselected works through the website Redes Mexico.
July 20, 2010 Winners are announced.
September / November 2010 Winners will visit Mexico. Mariachi groups will tour the country.
